SILVER AND GOLD

It is truly unbelievable how high both gold and silver are today! Our customers are constantly telling us that we are paying the most money for silver and gold scrap.  Everyone is paying so much attention to the price of gold, that most are over looking the fact that silver is also at an all time high.  Your grandmother's sterling silver flatware set that most of us do not use, is worth a lot of money. Make sure it's sterling silver and not silver plated. If you are not certain, bring it in.  We do not charge do give an estimate on value. See you soon. Kim    P.S... Time to clean out those jewelry boxes!

Secret Engraving

A customer came in many years ago to pick up his wedding band that he just had engraved. He was in a hurry and his fiance was waiting in the car. When he got back in the car she asked how does it look? He replied "I didn't bother to look at it." She said you better check it out, so he took it out of the box and read the engraving inside,"PUT THIS BACK ON YOUR FINGER..."      Just an idea! Happy spring!! Kim

Add-a-Memory

Does everyone know about the add a pearl necklaces we do? It's a perfect sentimental idea for Aunts, Grandparents or Godparents.

You start with 1,3,5 pearls on a necklace. Then add pearls for occasions like birthdays, Baptisim, Communion and recitals.

Its a great gift because when its finished you have a full strand of beautiful pearls. It's so cool to see young women wear these pearl strands for their wedding.

It's a very special gift and since you're buying 1 pearl at a time, it's really affordable. Building the strand over a lifetime gives it huge sentimental meaning. Which means she'll treasure it that much more. Maybe we should change the name to "add-a-memory."

Black, White and Glitter

This year was the first time I noticed how much they recognized the jewelry at the Oscars. The green emeralds that Reese Witherspoon wore with her classic black and white dress were beautiful.

Next occasion you have to wear black and white, let's do green jewelry. It doesn't have to be emeralds, it can be tsavorites. (Tsavorites are part of the garnet family.) It would be great to have a set with earrings and matching necklace.

I know I would wear them alot.

Love is in the Air

Romance is what its all about! Over the years we have created so many beautiful diamond engagement rings for customers. The truth is I never find out how the proposal occurred.

Do the guys still have to ask the father for his daughters hand in marriage?

Personally, I think guys are more romantic than we give them credit for. Help me steer guys the way you would love. They take suggestion pretty well from experts like me. :-)

What was your engagement story?  If you have a minute share with me. Kim

Showing Your Love

I love Valentine's Day!

My favorite memory of Valentine's day is when I was a young girl… I have three brothers that I love very much. My mom always said "On Valentine's Day boys buy for girls, girls don't buy for boys."  So all of my brothers tried to out do each other in the size and design of the box of chocolate candy. I had big yellow boxes, red boxes, pink boxes, square and heart shaped boxes with ribbons in every color imaginable. I saved them all for a long, long time. I felt very loved by my brothers and still do. Happy Valentine's Day, John, Timothy and Matthew!

Valentine's Day gifts are more sentimental than any other holiday. It's a "one-on-one show your love" occasion.

Here's a couple ideas if you aren't sure what to do for your sweetie.

We've made up a couple of baskets with a 24k. or platinum dipped real rose, there are chocolates and a beautiful strand of freshwater pearls with a sterling silver catch for $99. The baskets look awesome and are a great deal.

Or we have beautiful heart jewelry. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets.

Anyone who splurges on a diamond heart purchased for Valentine's Day will get a platinum or 24k dipped rose, as well. Always specially wrapped, ready for presentation.

What was your all-time favorite Valentine moment? Tell us on Facebook.

See you soon!

Insure Your Jewelry

It's time to update the appraised value on your favorite jewelry. (Or get them appraised for the first time if you never have.) Believe me you will be sorry if something gets lost or stolen. Chances are you will never get another one. I see this happen all too often.

Check to see what you currently have listed with your insurance. My insurance company calls it the "personal articles" policy. But, every company calls it something different. Just give your agent a call they'll help you out. At a minimum have your engagement ring and wedding band insured.

If those are already on your policy make sure the appraised value is up to date. Just the weight in gold could make the price increase considerably. Gold prices have gone up $200 in the last 6 months alone. Most policies will only cover the appraised value on record with your insurance policy. They don't account for fluctuations in gold prices.

Here's your to-do list:
  1. Make a list of your favorite and most sentimental pieces.
  2. Call your insurance agent.
  3. Get a list of the items currently on your policy, and the covered value.
  4. Compare the 2 lists. Anything missing?
  5. Any item you thing might have gone up in value, get a new appraisal.
  6. Get the new appraisals to you insurance company.
We are all about making it easy for you. We have GIA certified diamond graduates on staff and can do appraisals on the spot. Just give us a call before you come in. Then we'll fax the appraisal straight to your insurance company. So come armed with their fax number.

Better to be safe than sorry.

See you soon. Kim

Resolutions

OK, so maybe you didn't get exactly what you wanted to freshen up your jewelery box. Let's resolve to take care of that, this month.

Here's the plan - spend this week's snow storm cleaning you jewelry box.
  • Pick out your favorite stuff. Resolve to wear it. Wear it for no reason other than you enjoy it.
  • What's broken. Is there something that keeps you from wearing it? Get it fixed, sized, put a bigger catch on it**, have it polished, whatever it needs. My repair shop is fantastic. I've seen the delight simple changes can have, letting you wear jewelery you forgot you had.
  • What sentimental favorites are in there? - Maybe you have your moms ring or a sweet 16 gift.  That's full of special memories, but if you don't love rings, it's a problem. Or maybe you just don't care for the design. Let's face it styles have evolved over the last 30 years, a lot. And so has your taste. We'll get some ideas to restyle it so you'll wear it for years.
Let's do something with those pieces to get you wearing them again.  Together we'll come up with ideas to turn your heirlooms into something you're dying to wear. We'll get you from "nice to have" to "can't take it off" favorite.

Kim

** If you are feeling the effects of time on your finger's ability to put your jewelery on, call me. There are so many options for findings, we'll hook you up with the right one to make it easy for you. Clasps on my stuff has been changed out a few times. Getting the right stuff on the business end of a necklace makes life SO much easier.
